Red Monkey Lodge

The 9 rooms at Red Money are simple, comfortable, functional and tastefully decorated with a double bed and mosquito net. The rooms also feature a ceiling fan, desk, chair, en-suite bathroom with a hot water shower, stone sink and mirror.

The food at Red Monkey is of high quality. Guests can dine at the Sea View Restaurant that specialises in sea food. The Sea View Restaurant does not offer a menu to its guests as they believe in locally sourcing the ingredients and avoid using frozen products. Guests will be able to see what is on offer by choosing from the daily black board menu. The bar also offers a selection of local beers, international spirits and wines from South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Australia and Europe.

Red Money also offers a book exchange where guests can relax in the reading corner or on the hammocks.

The Lodge also offers evening entertainment such as beach barbecues with African dance groups and drummers, jam sessions and parties in cooperation with neighbouring hotels. Transfers are also available to various parties for those guests wishing to stay out late.

For those wishing to be pampered, there is a masseuse available at request who will pamper you directly on your beach bed or in your room.

The manager of red monkey is a fully qualified dive instructor and will be happy to suggest itineraries according to guests’ ability. The reef in front of the lodge boasts some of east Africa’s finest corals where you can dive down slopes, walls and overhangs, the lagoon inside the reef is an ideal spot for snorkelling and beginners as well as an excellent spot for night diving.

The lodge also offers fantastic Kite Surfing from its in-house Kite Centre. The sandbank in front of Red Monkey Lodge is the ideal location for beginners, and expert kite surfers can go to play on the reef breaks.

Other activities available include: Deep Sea Fishing, Bicycle tours, Quad Excursions, Sailing trips and Sundowner Cruises.

The Red Monkey Lodge wants to be an antithesis to mass tourism by being integrated with the local village and do not offer luxury accommodation. As much as possible this lodge locally sources all it’s products and employs and trains people from the local community.

In our opinion, although the rooms are modest, the lodge is perfectly located and the ideal accommodation for back-packers or those on a budget. The staff at the lodge make you feel incredibly welcome. This lodge is quiet, romantic and integrates perfectly with the local community. This lodge is not really suitable for families as there is no animation team or swimming pool to keep the kids occupied. At this lodge you really can be as active or as lazy as you like.
