Big Game Fishing in Tanzania

Short fishing trips

For those who do not want to spend all day on the water we can take you fishing off the numerous reefs that line the coast just offshore from The Tides. Typical catches include; Sailfish, Dorado, Wahoo, Yellow Fin Tuna, King Fish, Barracuda

Please note there is a Catch and Release policy for the large game fish. Otherwise the kitchen will use anything ‘landed’.

There are two dive operations on the beach. We can arrange for you to meet the operators and organize your diving. We offer exceptional diving on the Maziwe Island Marine Reserve.

You can enjoy a selection of water sports including kite and wind surfing.

The Tides works closely with the local community and offers its guests the chance to explore the local village of Ushongo and nearby Pangani. These trips offer a fascinating incite to local life and provides a valuable source of income for local people.

Historical Walking Tour to Pangani

A guided tour of Pangani visiting many buildings of historical significance, of which there are many. The guide tells you about the long and fascinating history of Pangani from ancient times, to Portuguese settler; Arab Slave and Ivory Traders to the Colonial history during the German and British rule. US $25 per person (minimum 2 people). Includes guide and transfer to and from Pangani. Takes about 2-3 hrs including travelling to and from Pangani.

Village Walk through Ushongo

Guided village walk through Ushongo, a typical Swahili fishing village. One of the waiters will escort you and explain all about life in the village. Free of Charge (voluntary donations to the village development fund are welcomed instead).

The Tides Lodge offers an outstanding level of service and attention to detail with nearly all visitors giving a maximum of 5/5 for the ‘over all’ Tides experience. This is a brilliant achievement for any hotel or lodge and a testament to the way that the property is run and maintained.

We think that the Tides offers excellent value for money with flexible board options and has huge versatility. It’s well suited to families, couples and the perfect place to be as lazy or as active as you choose. Whilst it’s not located on Zanzibar Island, the coastline here is immaculate, unspoilt and un-crowded.
