Overview

Bawe is small private island located roughly 5 miles North West of Stone Town, reachable in 30 minutes by boat.

Upon arrival your first task will be to remove your shoes and allow the warm soft sand to melt away the rapidly fading memory of the city life and adopt a more relaxed approach where time is largely irrelevant.

Whilst Bawe Island is petite it has been skilfully crafted into a secluded haven for those wishing to escape the stress and hassle of the out side world.

The island prides itself on its laid back attitude and like many properties has a 'no news no shoes' policy.

Accommodation

The cottages have been carefully constructed from traditional local materials with hand woven thatched roofs and decorated in a warm pallet of colours. The beds are built using recycled wood from an old Dhow boat and have mosquito nets draped from above. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, all with double basin, 2 al fresco showers and bathtub.

All cottages have panoramic sea views and have been designed to blend with the environment. Whilst there is no air-conditioning the cooling sea breeze circulates day and night providing a very comfortable indoor temperature.

Facilities

Facilities here are limited, but that is not the point of this resort.

You should think of this as your own private paradise to relax, unwind and replenish your soul. You will not find many reminders of the outside world, such as TV, radio, and internet connection, as these things are often superfluous and largely over rated.

You will find, a good size fresh water pool, a beautiful beach, sun, sea, sand and a smile.

Other activities

If relaxing on the beach with a cocktail or enjoying a massage is not enough, you can take various trips and excursions to Stone Town for some Swahili style shopping or to Prison Island to see the giant tortoises.

Our opinion

This property is brand new (2008) and as such immaculately finished. Currently there is little guest feed back available but all early reports have been extremely positive with many commenting on the high quality of the fresh sea food on offer.

This property is perfect for romantics and honeymooners or those wishing to escape.
